Fenugreek for Milk Supply - thyroid warning

May 16, 2018

Fenugreek is a herb that is commonly used to help breastfeeding mums increase their milk supply.  The first place many mums go for a solution to milk supply is the health food store.  Keeping things natural and using nature to give your body the nudge is sometimes needs is normally a great idea.

There are, however, some instances where natural medicine is not effective and can even cause harm to you or your baby.  For instance, if you have thyroid problems or a family history of thyroid or even if your thyroid panel tests during pregnancy came back as 'borderline' then the majority of health professionals advise that using fenugreek can be harmful.

There is a lot of conflicting advice about this subject on the internet and it's best to discuss this with your GP and with a natural health expert before considering Fenugreek as a solution if there is even a remote hint of thyroid problems.
