Alcohol & Breastfeeding - a side effect you might not be aware of

While most mothers are aware of the concerns of having alcohol in their breast milk, it is less commonly known that alcohol can interfere with milk being let out of the breasts. 

 

After consuming alcohol, you may experience a feeling that your supply is poor because expressing is different after consuming alcohol.  Mums often express their milk for a feed or two after a special event to ensure baby doesn't get any alcohol, however, letdown of milk from breasts may be delayed by the alcohol consumption. 

 

Patience is often all that is needed and the knowledge that it is the alcohol that is slowing down the normal response.
